There are billions upon billions of blogs out there in the world of web. There are blogs about government, blogs about schools, blogs about industry. There are blogs about politics, academics, and television shows. People blog fashion photographs, post about books, and write about different types of paper. Have an interest? Someone's blogging about it. Sometimes bloggers are great writers. Sometimes not so great, but there you go.

There are even blogs that purposely waste your time! http://imundercontrol.blogspot.com/
So the challenge for the newbie blogger is to decide what her focus will be. Will you have a purpose at all? Will you admit that you have no purpose and just see where blogging takes you? Are you beginning a new life endeavor and you want to focus on that? Do you need inspiration? Do you read other blogs, or are you just posting for yourself and no one else (that's pretty selfish, not to judge)?
In case you haven't noticed, this post has very little purpose but to throw some food for thought out into cyberspace. I'm thinking about all these questions myself. ;) The best way to get inspiration for your own blog, to realize that there can be a purpose to personal blogging, is to follow other blogs. And the next time you think that your blog has no purpose, remember the answer to this question: which blog is more fun to read? The HP corporate blog (which obviously has a purpose!)? Or the random boring personal blog you found on Blogger this morning? I think we'll probably agree on the answer to that...
Good luck bloggers!
