Beginnings

Beginnings are never really beginnings, are they? Beginnings are always just changes, or the endings of older things. It's a backwards way of thinking about it, but don't we always say 'it's not the end, it's the beginning?' Or 'every change is a new beginning?' Or even 'when God closes a door, he opens a window' is just another way of saying it. But here I am declaring a beginning that is actually an ending, rather than an ending that is actually a beginning.

How do you begin a blog? Here is the question that plagues our ever-changing 21st century Western lifestyle. We're often saved the experience of explaining ourselves to others thanks to things like Facebook, tumblr, and resumes. But here I am again, breaking this rule by dropping this new blog on the cyberworld out of the blue.

My name is Sarah. (My nickname is Diva; I think it's a dancer thing). I am a recent college graduate, who really wants to add something to the end of this sentence, but in all truthfulness, I've said it all already. My name is Sarah, and I am a college graduate. Graduating college has this weird effect on people. For some, it's a final release after decades of suffocating schooling. For others, it's a ticked box along the path to a greater future. And for those like me, it's a strange wake-up call. Having planned a life for four years (and probably a lot more years before that), counting on a job in a chosen field in a chosen city and with a chosen salary, college graduates soon lose sight of why they wanted to go to college in the first place. They realize that all those nights staying up late exploring the city with friends were the more important parts of college; though they worked hard (hopefully) and achieved all the accolades they needed to fulfill the plan, they remember finally that there is probably more to life than work and it becomes difficult to settle on something.

This blog will not be to focus on my personal life's issues. However, they will probably pop up along the way. I cannot share the day-to-day happenings of my life without input from the bigger things-- it's the bigger things that will decide where I am and what I'm doing. But with this blog, I hope to expose you to some of my favorite things and to the daily adventures of this college graduate, with notes on fashion, style, beauty, travel, and lifestyle.

Well here we go....
